Suffer Together. Finish Together. Earn It Together.
New for this year’s Tour of the White Mountains, the 50-Mile Duo Team Category gives riders a chance to take on the White Mountains’ most iconic backcountry trails the way the world’s toughest mountain-bike events do – as a team. Modeled after South Africa’s legendary Cape Epic, this format celebrates partnership, pacing, and perseverance. Two riders. One course. A full serving of gritty, soulful singletrack that winds under the aspen and pine tree’d canopy, sends it over the chunk, and rips through the Apache-Sitgreaves singletracks.
Quick Facts
- Category: Duo Team (Men’s, Women’s, or Co-ed)
- Distance: 50 Miles – same rowdy course, same bragging rights
- Start / Finish: PLAC&S, Pinetop-Lakeside Activity Center & Stables
- Timing: Team time stops when the second teammate crosses the line
- Cut-offs: Same as solo 50-Miles – both teammates must make each checkpoint
The Buddy System
The ultimate “No rider left behind” policy.
You and your teammate must stay within 2 minutes (roughly 100 meters) of each other at all times.
If you roll into the finish line more than 2 minutes apart, you’ll get a 10-minute penalty.
More than 30 minutes apart? That’s a DNF – because if your partner’s not there, your race isn’t finished.
Official time is based on the second rider’s chip, so plan to cross that line shoulder-to-shoulder – maybe dusty-faced, probably tired, but together.
The Rules of Engagement
- Ride as a Team: Two riders, one mission – finish together and look out for one another.
- Self-Supported: Share tools, tubes, snacks, and moral support, but no outside help between aid stations.
- Mechanical Mayhem: If your partner flats, fix it together. If they’re fading, keep ‘em rolling. You can tow with a short bungee – just keep it safe and friendly out there.
- Withdrawals: If one teammate can’t continue, the team is officially done (though the other can finish their ride for pride’s sake).
- Positive Vibes, Pls: No blocking, cutting, or negative-attitude riding. The Tour of the White Mountains is a community first event experience.

Why the Duo?
Because while riding alone has its time & place, sharing long rides with friends makes every pedal stroke more enjoyable.
This category is for the friends who train together, push each other, and revel through the suffering on Pinetop-Lakeside’s most iconic trails.
Grab your partner, register your team, and get ready to grind up the climbs, rail the singletrack, and toast at the finish!
