2010 Pre-ride Weekend in the White Mountains

Following is all you need to know, plus a little more:

We at Epic Rides have always felt there is no substitute for a pre-ride. It's the ideal opportunity to ride the course and become familiar with all that is important for event weekend. Knowing what's around the next corner or where the top of the hill is, can be invaluable when event day rolls around.

Please understand, the pre-ride is an unofficial get together with the intent to ride all the trails which make up the Tour of the White Mountains routes. When we say unofficial, we mean:

Bring your own insurance
Bring your own support (food, water, etc)
Bring a sense of adventure
Possibly most important, bring your sense of humor

A: Great. Here's what you need to know

  • Date/TBD the group will meet at the Country Club trailhead at 9:30a (link to driving directions below)
  • All skill levels are welcome...
  • Based on group size and interests, we will split into smaller groups and head to specific trailheads throughout the forest
  • Each group will have a ride leader with knowledge of the White Mountains trail system & event route
  • A likely scenario will be for one group to ride the first and last section of the course (about 30 miles), another group to ride the middle half (about 30 miles) and a third group that will ride the 15 mile route. Sunday's ride might be a similar but very different approach. Essentially, we're playing it by ear...
  • We will have a group camping location near Country Club trailhead (middle of route) in the forest. This is primitive, be prepared. For directions to Country Club trailhead from Show Low click here: http://www.tracks-pinetop-lakeside.org/TrailsFiles/CountryClubTrail.htm
  • We will mark the way to the camping area with Epic Rides pin flags from the trailhead along FR 185 (same dirt road the trailhead is on).
  • As mentioned above, this is unsupported. If you want to get in on the fun, please be prepared and on-time.
